Dear Homeowners -- Not only do wipes wreak havoc with our septic system, GREASE and OIL can irreparably damage our leach fields as it prevents water from seeping (leaching) into the ground. While we can periodically clear the lines leading to the leach field, repairing a leach field can be costly, time-consuming, and prevent use of the septic system during the repair ... if it is even possible. And, we have very few options for relocating a leach field and redirecting the sewer lines to it!!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ... DO NOT DUMP GREASE OR OIL DOWN THE DRAIN. Please collect it in a container or wipe it out with a paper towel and place it in the trash. You'll not only help prevent sewer backups, but you will help extend the life of our leach fields. And, of course, please don't flush wipes or anything other than 1-ply toilet paper down the toilet. Note: We also tend to have a large number of emergency calls for sewer backups on weekends in the summer, especially holiday weekends, due to high water usage within our community. The water accumulating in our tanks simply cannot leach out into the ground at the same rate. We do monitor our tanks at least once per month and have the solids pumped out on a regular basis. We have over 11 septic sites containing 33 tanks within our community. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. OSC Board Comments are closed.
