Dear Homeowners ... We had several homeowner requests relative to spraying for mosquitos in August. The Board placed a call to the Cape May County Mosquito Commission in August with the request. PLEASE NOTE: They do not automatically come out and spray. A member of the commission comes to the site to determine if there is any standing water whether it be in buckets, tarps, kiddie pools, etc. If there is excessive standing water, they then ask the community to self-police first as mosquitos can develop in a capful of standing water in just 7 days! They will also set traps to count and type the mosquitos. Here are the findings from their August 30th inspection. The inspector found a boat with water in the tarp and an ornamental pond with mosquito larva. He treated both with altosid XR briquettes. The entrance road of your campground is surrounded by National Wildlife refuge and the back is surrounded by marsh. We are not permitted to treat the wildlife area, and the marsh is inspected and treated by helicopter. We will spray your area by truck the next time Cape May Court House is on the schedule. If a spraying is scheduled for Cape May Court House in September, we will be included. Scheduling is dependent on weather. Once the temperature starts to fall, the Mosquito Commission indicated that spraying is no longer effective. NOTE: We will not be notified in advance if they spray. Here is additional literature provided by the Commission. Also note that dragonflies love mosquitos! If you see them, don't kill them. They're helping rid the area of mosquitos!
